Sin Embargo
Sin Embargo originally
formed in Lapeer, Michigan in the summer of 1992 and has essentially been
Kyle
Kipp (guitar/vocals) and Eric
Kipp (bass), and "a drummer". Sin
Embargo's most recent drummer was
Nevada
Parsons. Kyle is currently looking for a new drummer to
succeed Nevada, who was in the band from January 2004 to August 2005.
Other Sin Embargo
drummers over the years have included Ed
Stark (1997, 1999-2003), Chad
Calton (1998-1999), and Jason
Hofer (1993-1997), among others from the 1992-1993 era.
the 77s
The
77s is a 4-piece band based in Ypsilanti,
Michigan that began in May 2006 and currently contains Kyle "KK Dirty Money"
Kipp (guitar/vocals), Alex King (drums), Casey Jones (guitar), and Joe
Jones (bass). The band basically started as "the
new" Las Drogas in March 2006 when Alex jammed
with Kyle for the drummer position in Las
Drogas, but Alex (and original bass player
Caleb Fiser) wanted to go with a different band name. Although the
77s have been writing their own new material,
they started out playing a few Las Drogas & Sin Embargo songs in their
early set lists. Other early variations of the
77s band name included "the Ungodly 77s" and
"the Ypsi 77s". Kyle & Alex felt that the band name had to contain
"77" in it because they were both born in 1977.
Las Drogas
Las Drogas
was a band based out of Ypsilanti, Michigan that primarily contained Kyle
"KK Dirty Money" Kipp (guitar/vocals) & Nevada Parsons (drums), with
Eric Kipp guesting on bass guitar from time to time. Nevada Parsons
held the drummer position in Las Drogas
from December 2003 to August 2005. Eric even played drums at a Las
Drogas show in Ypsilanti on March 11, 2006,
before Kyle eventually hooked up with drummer Alex King (and eventually
original bass player Caleb Fiser) to form "the
77s". At this time, Las
Drogas is primarily a part-time solo show
for Kyle if the 77's
are unable to perform with their full line-up. In the future, it
may also morph into a variant of Sin Embargo
with Kyle on guitar & vocals and Eric on drums to keep some songs alive
that the 77s
don't perform. It is easier to explain the origins of Las
Drogas by going backwards, than by going forwards!
Read below:
Las Drogas was previously known as "KK Dirty Money & Las Drogas". Kyle decided to shorten the band name to "Las Drogas" in April 2005 since the original moniker was quite a mouthful.
KK Dirty Money & Las Drogas developed out of Kyle's solo act "KK Dirty Money" (KKDM) thoughout 2003 and into 2004. Originally utilizing a few rotating back-up musicians, KKDM ultimately decided to refer to them as "Las Drogas". Drummer Nevada Parsons was the last of the rotating stable of backing musicians and ended up sticking with KKDM to create a duo out of "KK Dirty Money & Las Drogas" in late 2003.
Kyle's solo act "KK Dirty Money" started in the spring of 2002 as an offshoot of the band "Dirty Money".
Dirty Money formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the fall of 2001, and contained Kyle "KK Dirty Money" Kipp (guitar/vocals), Jim "[$ic] boy" Plowman (drums/vocals), and Eric "Greazy *E*" Kipp (bass) by January 2002. Dirty Money originally began as a side project of Kyle's while Sin Embargo was on a hiatus, but throughout 2002, the group actually enjoyed some moderate success in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area independent of Sin Embargo before disbanding in early 2003. The most recent official Sin Embargo recording Blowin' Mud was a "split" CD with Dirty Money that was released in October 2002.
What the hell is a "hybrid show"?
A "hybrid show"
was when Eric (bass) joined Las Drogas
on-stage at certain shows. So, essentially, at a "hybrid show", one
saw both Sin Embargo and Las Drogas
simultaneously,
even if it was only billed as a "Las Drogas"
show. Both bands generally played sets drawn from the same pool of
Sin Embargo and old Dirty Money songs, as well as associated cover tunes,
just with a slightly different style.
These days, Kyle's main musical focus is fronting the 77s, and playing bass guitar in the Sunday Painters, while Las Drogas and Sin Embargo are essentially side projects. Las Drogas will likely continue on in some capacity with Kyle on guitar & vocals and Eric playing bass and/or drums. Sin Embargo will remain on hiatus until Kyle & Eric decide to find a suitable new drummer, or reunite with a former drummer (such as Ed Stark or Jason Hofer).
