Michael Hauben Spring 1997 Possible topics for masters project 1) Modifying Online Global Culture and Communication paper using reviewers comments and suggestions from Corfu Conference. Since the paper has been accepted, but I've been asked to do some modifications, it would be helpful towards both preparing for the conference, representing Teachers College and Columbia, and for my project process if the work I do would fulfill my project obligations. The Conference is held by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Theme - "Culture and Democracy Revisited in the Information Society." There will be people at the conference from around the world, especially Europe, formulating recommendations for policy, and the proceedings will be published by Chapman & Hall. 2) Analysis of posts from k12.chat.teacher newsgroup. Looking at value of the newsgroup to teachers work life. Analyzing data to come to make some observations of value of social networking online. 3) Same as point 2 but with data from the netizens association mailing list, which I formed April 1996 and continue to administer. 4) Continuing work and research towards exploring the Net as an emerging public space and sphere. Continuing on the work I started with Prof. Taylor on this. This is a common theme that I have pursued in much of the research and writing I have done while at Teachers College.
